After billions of years of evolution, life
on earth has arrived. We, the Homo sapiens, evolved some 2, 00,000 to 4,
50,000 years ago. Modern human beings
migrated from Africa and spread over to Asia, and subsequently Europe and other
countries. Research has proved beyond
doubt that humans are genetically the same.
In other words we have a common background and all our racial prejudices
are misplaced and not at all relevant.
Unity
of humanity largely depends on what we, the enlightened citizens, think and act
collectively to overcome the
current problems that we face. To arrive at a definite workable solution, all
those who truly feel the urgency, should come together and dispassionately
discuss it. We have evolved over a period of time and developed certain social, economic, political
and cultural values which we think rightly or wrongly as unquestionable.
Without doubt, all will admit that we have distorted
views of what life is all about and what would give us a happy and satisfactory
life. We are obsessed by greed and overlook whether the technology led civilisation
will sustain us on a long term basis. Our zealous passion for comfort and
luxury at the cost of depriving the elementary needs of billions of people
sans any guilt pangs is highly deplorable.
Some soul searching within each one of us
with compassion and love for the planetary citizens will definitely help
individually and collectively. All
sections of people irrespective of national, religious and racial prejudice
should come together to find a solution.
As
per the expert survey, we have exhausted much of the available
resources and we would not be able to sustain the prevailing standard of high
standard of life as we desire. There is a systemic erosion of ecosystem.
The emissions of greenhouse gases are causing growing
global warming. Its consequences will endanger the very life of future generations.
Stockpiles of nuclear weapons and the ever
growing trend of adding more weapons to one's military stock will end in an unimaginable
situation of total destruction of earth and its species. We cannot rule out
such an eventuality as there is no attempt to reduce or eliminate such inhuman
weapons.
Scarcity of natural resources such as clean
air, water, land, food will also lead to violent confrontation within
nations and war between nations.
We know we have already reached a high
level of 7 billion people and by 2050; it would touch 10 billion. Can we imagine such a worst predicament?
We are ready to shed our blood for God, but are we ready to think over the present unpredictable situations
when humanity will cease to an end.
We do not think over the future and believe that God above will find a solution.
We can definitely avoid such an uncertain future
and take remedial solution now. The unity of humanity in resolving
the frightening unpredictable plight of humanity is what is the need of the hour!
